AcademyShakespeare is a new touring initiative by the theatre to bring school-friendly productions of the Bard's work to middle and high schools in the area.

A Shakespeare classic is chosen from the school curriculum and is adapted to fit within one 50 minute class period. Two or three actors play all the main roles, using demonstrative masks and significant props to bring the story to life in the classroom.

Schools that join AcademyShakespeare also receive comprehensive study guides, which meet National and State curriculum guidelines. And after each performance the actors hold a Talk Back session to address any questions from the students.

Student Matinees

In association with Empty Jug Productions, the Academy Theatre is offering two student matinees during the 2007-2008 season.

The first is a Christmastime production of Beauty and the Beast - a perfect holiday field trip for students of any age. In April, we are presenting the classic A Streetcar Named Desire, which will be suitable for high school classes.

Dates for these special performances are:
Beauty and the Beast ~ Thursday 20 December at 10:00 AM
A Streetcar Named Desire ~ Thursday 3 April at 10:00 AM
